Guardian Home Program explanation

What is a Guardian Home?

Our Guardian Home Program is a unique arrangement where local families are given the chance to have a "pick of the litter puppy" as a permanent member of their household. While the puppy grows into a loving family member at the guardian home, we retain breeding rights for a set period tailored to each situation. Upon completing their breeding career, the dog is spayed or neutered at our expense and continues to live as a cherished pet with the guardian family. Since 2016, over 50 families have joined us in this rewarding experience.

Guardian Home Program responsibilities

Responsibilities of Guardian Home Families

Guardian families play a crucial role in the health and well-being of our puppies. Responsibilities include providing routine veterinary care, feeding a high-quality diet specified by us, regular grooming, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, training, exercise, socialization, and most importantly, abundant love and care. Breeding-related medical costs are covered by Daniel's Doodles, ensuring the guardian homes are only responsible for routine maintenance and medical care.

Guardian Home Program benefits

Benefits of being a Guardian Home

As a guardian family, you receive the very best from Daniel's Doodles. Our breeding dogs are selected for their exemplary qualities, including temperament, which is a top priority. Before entering our breeding program, all health testing is conducted at our expense, allowing guardian families to enjoy the benefits of having a top-quality dog without the associated costs. Additionally, guardian families get the unique experience of being part of our breeding program and witnessing the joy their dog brings to new families across the country.

Guardian Home Program requirements

Requirements to become a Guardian Home

To be eligible for our Guardian Home Program, families must live within 100 miles of Fayetteville, NC, have a safe and secure environment, and be able to provide ample time and attention to the puppy. It's crucial for the dog to be an indoor pet, well-groomed, and fed Purina Pro Plan Lamb and Rice dog food. Crate training and socialization are also essential requirements for the puppy's well-being.

How the Guardian Home Program works

How does it work

Our Guardian Program primarily involves female pups, though occasionally males are available. The guardian is responsible for alerting us when the dog enters its heat cycle, which lasts between 14 and 21 days. During this time, we require access to the dog for breeding-related appointments. The guardian dog stays with its family until just before giving birth, then stays with us for the whelping and weaning of her pups, returning to the guardian home approximately 7 weeks later. We encourage guardians to visit during this period. For those receiving a puppy, we conduct health testing within the first year to determine suitability for our breeding program. We require regular photo updates and occasional visits to ensure the puppy's development and to maintain a comfortable relationship with our team.

In our Guardian Home Program, we seek to create a community that shares our dedication to the well-being and love of these extraordinary dogs. If you feel inspired to participate in this rewarding experience, we warmly invite you to join our family at Daniel's Doodles.
